*Gaano CALAPIT ang Pagbabago? (How near is Change?)

An Insight into the influence of Globalization on the Contreras-Calapit Family*

One day, you will be buying from a sari-sari store, and after a year, you are then buying from the same place now owned by a foreign company. One day, you will be studying physics, and a year passes, and you are then studying a curriculum that was modeled after a different system of education. One day, you will be working in the Philippines, and a year later, you are then working in another country. One day, you will be eating Filipino cuisine, and a year from now, you are then eating food from different parts of the world delivered from an online store. Change happens in a snap, and because of globalization, change is at a rapid and unprecedented pace. Globalization has different effects on the macro- and micro-levels in society (Nerad, 2020). Each unit in society has varying degrees of friction to this phenomenon, and the less privileged have the least resistance to it. All this means is that socioeconomic status undeniably has an influence on how heavily globalization affects you, your friends, and your family.

Deaths upon Debts: The Survival of Developing Countries from Crisis to Crisis and its Connection to Global Population

Whether a country is developing or developed depends on the challenges they face regarding social, economic, political, and environmental issues. These challenges stem from a weak industrial system, including widespread poverty, health and food insecurity, climate change unpreparedness, low literacy rates, and many more. And as the world partakes in a globalized system, many more people share most of the mentioned struggles. The Human Development Index (HDI) considers these economic and demographic development factors and ranks the population’s difficulty. Everyone is familiar with the Covid-19 pandemic and its intense shakedown on the strength of countries’ healthcare systems and their recovery ability and rehabilitate their constituents. More so about the ongoing climate crisis that brings more brutal disasters, rising sea levels, and increasing global temperatures. In addition to this pressure is the debt crisis (United Nations Development Programme, 2022). A global hand is choking the world’s poorest, pushing developing countries into survival, and bringing deaths upon debts.

Recycling Paper

Technology has allowed humanity to develop methods that aid the betterment of our environment. One of these methods is recycling. Recycling is the process of using old and used materials to create the same material. Most of the time, it uses less energy than it takes to produce from raw materials. A few of the benefits include creating employment, saving landfill space, reducing energy and water consumption, and reducing greenhouse gases.

Voters' Kodigo: Enrichment of Participatory Democracy of Grade 12 Students in Makati Through Video-based Intervention

Participatory democracy is defined as encouraging citizens to participate in the government’s decision-making process that impacts their everyday life (Keugten, 2021). With youth’s involvement in politics on social media, there is also the spread of fake news and misinformation that influences their beliefs and opinions towards politics. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to enrich the participation democracy of grade 12 students of Makati using video-based intervention on voter education. The researchers used a purposive sampling to select 80 participants who are eligible to vote in the upcoming 2022 elections. The pretest and posttest of this study was adapted and modified from the study of Mascola (1972), consisting of topics such as political opinions, efficacy, support, participation and influences of political socialization agents. The Wilcoxon Signed-Rank Test showed that there is a significant difference between the pretest and posttest scores of the experimental group, while the control group does not. On the other hand, Mann Whitney U Test showed that there is no significant difference between the posttest scores between the two groups. The results of these two statistical analyses implies that the use of VBI is effective in enriching the behavior and attitudes towards politics of the participants. However, external factors such as exposure to external information on voter education other than the electronic guide ad familiarity with the questionnaire may have affected the posttest scores of the control group that have led the results of Mann Whitney U Test to be on par with the experimental group.

***Being a part of something bigger than ourselves:

Global citizenship in the eyes of Stoicism***

The world is shrinking, not literally, but in a manner that we are being connected with each other. The phenomenon of globalization, brought on by the rapid development of logistics and communications, directly affected how people interact with each other– creating global citizenship. My understanding of global citizenship has its roots in place with fate. Although it is unpleasant to think about, death is the ultimate ending everyone will meet regardless of skin, wealth, or beliefs. Mortality opens the discussion of why we should live and treat one another well, giving way to how we can achieve these in our own country and the world. Thus, global citizenship, essentially, is a guide to navigating the people and cultures of other nations driven by ethics, fairness, curiosity, and temperance.

***“Let us make Infinity!” Brought to you by Capitalism:

How the Sustainable Development Goals Evade Moral Responsibility***

Sustainable development is a development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs (United Nations Brundtland Commission, 1987). A more straightforward approach to sustainable development is being responsible for using finite resources— which modern-day capitalism actively and consciously goes against. Because of the way its system is built on turning a profit, it has created a consumer-centric production that continuously negatively affects the environment. Ironically, in a similar way, sustainable development goals (SDGs) are focused on maintaining growth which is unsustainable at its core from a capitalistic perspective. As the SDGs focus on creating economic opportunities that promise a profit, it supports the idea that a system will only work if it exploits people and the environment. The goals in question, then, do not address the very root of why there is widespread poverty, social inequity, climate issues, and more. This report will heavily emphasize ethics and morality instead of delving into conventional socioeconomic development goals to gain insight into the root of all problems.
